Catalog Composers Orders About Us ‚g‚n‚l‚d

| About us |

It is the scourge of all soundtrack enthusiasts: the unobtainable score. These days, so many classic and cult movie soundtracks are simply impossible to procure, resulting in frustration and, ultimately, a significant cultural void. No matter how tirelessly soundtrack fans seek out the scores that they desire most, either on CD or vinyl, if these timeless compositions have never been officially released, the fact is they can never be attained. In todayfs soundtrack market, it is difficult to clear even a small pressing of 3000 copies, and thatfs in sales throughout the entire world. Thus, many obscure and esoteric arrangements simply never find their way to the commercial market.

Enter Reel Music Down Under. Our goal is to provide a platform and market for the many classic, rare and cult film and television scores that have been left lingering in the darkness by major record labels. We decided that, rather than watch these splendid, resonating classics be delegated to cultural oblivion, we would open the doorway for composers and soundtrack enthusiasts to release and hear the scores that infused their hearts and minds over the years. Although still in our early days, we have now released two promotional CDs of film and television scores.

All the members of Reel Music Down Under are Japanese. Surprisingly, from investors to art directors, translators to managers, everyone has a specific job and is in contact with one another, but none of the group has ever personally met! The major representative of the label lives in Australia. He organises and communicates with all of the labelfs contacts, such as composers living in the US and business relations in Japan, through e mail correspondence.

| Origin of label name |

Reel Music was started in the United States by soundtrack collector and enthusiast Robert Feigenblatt, also a devout fan of acclaimed composer Fred Karlin. Feigenblatt and Karlin found a mutual passion for film music, and so in 1995 they collaborated together to produce the labelfs first release, "THE FRED KARLIN COLLECTION VOL.1". Unable to continue, Feigenblattfs hard work was picked up by another soundtrack aficionado in Australia, hence the addition of eDown Underf to the name. With a small, committed group he kept the enterprise steaming along, eventually releasing volume 2 of the Fred Karlin collection, the classic score for Robert Mulliganfs gTHE STALKING MOON".

Reel Music Down Under operates only as a promotional company at present, but has devout plans to diversify and expand into a fully-fledged, significant source for soundtrack bufffs the world over. As a promotional label, our area of activity is limited. However, we have already demonstrated a fervent commitment to our task by producing two high-quality collaborations with Fred Karlin, and are eager to get more passionate composers on board to assist us in our goals. We will endeavour to produce first-rate works with all the composers we work with.

Finally, we are also committed to keeping alive those soundtracks which now exist only as small fragments of film or, due to the loss of the original master-tape, are utterly long-gone. In this instance we would provide an orchestra and mastering equipment to re-record these long-lost gems of the soundtrack world, allowing the original composers to keep these obscure favourites alive for the world to experience. In the future we hope to produce fully licensed soundtracks. Our most noteworthy attribute is the personal relationships and collaborations we establish with composers; this ensures that the works are heard with all their original intentions and in all their unedited, re-mastered glory.
